Registration

Pre-registration services are available for all patients scheduled to undergo therapy or procedures at Saint John's Health Center.  Each patient is encouraged to request telephone pre-registration as far in advance as possible-but allowing at least 24 to 72 hours prior to any scheduled services in order for Saint John's to verify insurance coverage and benefits.

Pre-registration may be initiated by calling:

  • Inpatient/Obstetrics, (310) 829-8365;
  • Outpatient Surgery, (310) 829-8769;
  • All other services, (310) 829-8900.

As hospitalization, tests or any procedures are anticipated, Saint John's urges patients with financial concerns to consider our Financial Assistance Policy.  Based upon eligibility, the hospital may discount some or all of a patient's bill or help to arrange regular payments.

Eligibility for this service is based upon the income level of patients who do not have private insurance, Medi-Cal or
Medicare coverage.  It also extends to those who face challenges paying outstanding balances that are their responsibility.  Assistance is available for all medical services completed at Saint John's except elective ones.

To begin the financial assistance process, please call or visit:

What to Bring to the Hospital

On the day of a procedure, patients should bring the following items with them to the hospital:

  • Any papers that a physician has provided, including orders, lab results, etc.

  • Medical insurance card(s).

  • A list of medications currently being taken, including dosages.

  • Personal items, such as glasses, dentures, hearing aid, cane, etc.  This includes items that will be needed following surgery.

What NOT to bring:

  • Valuables should not be brought to the hospital. If necessary, these can be stored in the hospital safe or in the security office.
  • Any medications, herbal substances, etc., should be given to the patient's nurse. These could interfere or interact with any medications ordered during the patient's hospital stay and will be returned to the patient upon discharge or released to a family member during hospitalization. Patients should notify their nurse of any non-prescription or other medications, or herbal supplements, that they have been taking at home.
  • Electronic devices, such as laptop computers, DVD players, and cellular telephones, must be cleared by the nursing staff. However, cell phone usage is generally allowed throughout the hospital.
  • Saint John's welcomes all incoming patients, and makes every effort to ensure as pleasant a stay as possible. If we can be of any assistance either prior to or during admitting, please don't hesitate to contact a member of our staff.
